Creating Artificial Competition

Have you ever thought to yourself "Why have one eCommere website, when you can have two?" probably not, because that's rather a silly idea, but there is some legitimacy to the idea of setting up a second eCommerce website for yourself. It's quite an advanced strategy which will require an awful lot of time and effort, but it is potentially something which could pay off quite nicely, if done well.


 

So what's the value of having a second site? Well, imagine somebody searches for your product and then you come up along with a handful of competitors on the front page. Wouldn't it be good if you filled two of those front page slots? Well, if you have two sites and you work well to run both of them, you could. You could offer slightly different prices on each one and really make it seem that they are two distinct entities. If you intentionally made the prices look worse on a secondary site, you could use it to make the primary one look good in contrast. You obviously would never draw attention to the fact that you owned both, just do so discreetly behind the scenes.


 

Obviously, this is a little shady and some may feel uncomfortable doing it - this is absolutely fine as a good business can be run with honesty and integrity, but if you want to give this method a try, there's nothing wrong with that. It's a useful way for helping to bring sales to your eCommerce website - imagine if somebody went for a competitor over you and that competitor was you! It's just a little way of expanding the chances of people finding you and of making more sales.
