Posting URLs on Twitter

Our friend, Twitter

Social media marketing is an excellent way to keep in touch with your existing customers and a great way to reach new ones too. Twitter is one of the most popular social media networks and, as such, most businesses are using it as part of their social media marketing strategy. The only downside of Twitter is the fact that you are limited to a only 140 characters for every post - this sometimes makes it difficult for you to get across what you want to say.

One thing which is especially bothersome on Twitter is sharing URLs - URLs are usually pretty long, but you want to be sharing them, because if you're not, you're going to struggle to get people to go through to your site. The problem is, if you only share a URL on Twitter, this will look spammy, but when you share a URL you're then left with only a very small number of characters in order to explain what exactly that URL is. To get around this problem, there are a number of URL shortening tools out there (such as Bit.ly) and these can really help to cut down the number of characters that a URL takes up, leaving you plenty of room to weave your marketing magic and persuade people to come through to your site.

So if you were struggling with the Twitter character limit, I hope this shows you that it is a problem which can be overcome. Twitter can be a very effective marketing tool and, when you make good use of hashtags, you can use it to find lots of new people who are interested in the kind of thing that you're selling. So get on Twitter and start sharing their links - this could be a great untapped source of customers.
