The Two Year Internet Success Rule

The internet is an incredibly useful platform which has the potential of letting you reach millions of people. As time goes by, more and more people are taking full advantage of the internet's potential and making huge successes for themselves. So it's quite an exciting time to have an eCommerce website and I can see why you might want to set one up right about now!

There is, however, one very important thing to consider when it comes to making a name for yourself online and that thing is time. Some people think that they can make a website and then become an overnight success. Sadly, this is not quite how the internet works. There are millions of people just like you who are on the internet and hoping to get noticed as well and it's going to be a long time before people realise that your specific business is any better than the rest. That's why you need to remember the internet's Two Year Rule. Essentially, it's very simple: you just need to remember that it takes at least two years before any business or idea on the internet will get noticed and be successful. That's not to say that if you haven't built up a huge following after two years that you never will, just that you shouldn't expect it to happen in less than two years. Sure, occasionally a video will go viral (or something like that) and it'll attract millions of people in well under two years, but that's very different.

So if you've been at the eCommerce game for a few months and you're worried that you're a failure because you don't have a million people on your website every day: don't worry! Your numbers will grow in time. When you put the effort in with your marketing and provide a top notch service, you just know that they're going to come eventually.
