Duplicate Content

In today's blog post I would like to talk to you a little about the danger of duplicate content - this is something which I have emphatically not spoken about before. Having lots of content on your website is a good way to improve its search engine rankings. As such, you can see why people would want to have as much content on their site as possible, maybe they'd buy a whole set of articles from another site, or repost the same things periodically, but there are definite risks when it comes to duplicate content and you might not want to use it on your eCommerce website,

Google, essentially, is the grand decider of what is, and what is not a popular website and one thing they do not like is duplicate content. Sometimes content is reposted, and that's fair enough, Google can let that slide, but if there are loads of copies of the same content spread across different websites, Google will not be happy. If Google identifies a negative piece of duplicate content on a website, then it will mark down its rankings. In fact, worst case scenario is that Google become so annoyed with your website for doing that, that you are blacklisted and nobody can find it.

The point of this blog post is to illustrate the fact that content marketing will work best when it has had effort put into it and was sincerely written. You might think that there's some kind of 'easy win' in content marketing by reusing things over and over, buying articles in bulk or, at worst, stealing content, but the truth is that you will almost always suffer for that. So, if you do do any kind of content marketing on your site, just make sure that it is enjoyable to read, well written, unique and something that prospects will want to read. This is the best way to find success with content marketing and I hope that you will be able to do that with your own eCommerce website.
