Web Design Advice

As technology becomes more and more advanced, people find that there is an increasingly large number of ways that they can make their websites unique. These days people have flashy graphics, music, automatically scrolling menus, sound effects when you hover over options, bubbles of text appearing over things and all other kinds of things like that. For many, it's a way to make their website very unique.

However, in some ways it's best to keep the design of your website quite simple. I look at a huge range of websites and there's one thing that really gives a bad impression: when the name of the business gives no real indication of what it does and the design of the website makes it very hard to navigate, meaning you can't find out either. What's most important is that the 'About' and 'Contact' pages are both very easy to spot on a website's main page. There are times when I've come across a website and had no solid idea of what that business does and have also been unable to find any real information about it either. There are other times when I have known a business and needed to get in touch with them, only to find that their contact page hidden away in some obscure corner of the website which is really difficult to find. These are the kinds of things which will annoy visitors and, if visitors are annoyed, are they really going to buy something from you? They might not trust that your service will be satisfactory.

For an eCommerce business you need to be especially sure that your website is clear and easy to use. The front page should give a clear indication of what kind of thing you sell and also provide images of several different products. Anything that's really fancy will do nothing but make it harder for your customers to figure out what you sell and to find what they want to buy. So while a more complex website design might look unique, it may not actually be the best idea for your business.
