If you already have a RomanCart and run an eCommerce website with it, this blog post isn't going to be of any use to you. Indeed, this blog post is for people who are total beginners. Maybe you're somebody who wants to take a business online for the first time after years of running it offline, maybe you heard "eCommerce" mentioned in a seminar you attended and are keen to find out what it is, maybe you're looking into starting a business on the internet. There are lots of people this post might be useful to, but the very experienced are not within that group. Anyway, now that I've cleared that up, I shall proceed.

I want to give you an introduction to the concept of 'eCommerce' and you should be able to come away from this post with a fairly solid understanding. It's really quite simple in many respects: 'eCommerce' is just a way of saying electronic commercial activity, it's similar to 'email' and 'eBooks' in that respect. The eCommerce websites which most people will be familiar with are eBay and Amazon, which have virtually everything for sale on them. Both of these websites have a large number of independent sellers using them as a platform on which to sell their products.

But, for some people, being an almost anonymous face amongst thousands of users on another website isn't good enough and some people like to start their own eCommerce websites. It's a thriving industry and so many people are taking this route now because there is a lot of money to be made in eCommerce. It can help broaden the appeal of existing businesses or it can be the perfect start for new businesses; a great form of self-employment! This is where RomanCart comes in: we give you the tools you need to start selling things on any website and even offer handy marketing tools as well! Anyway, I hope you now feel that you understand what eCommerce is and how RomanCart ties into it.
